Re: EgoRaptor: Sequelitis: A Link to the Past vs Ocarina of Time Preview

I feel like this review may even be superior to the MatthewMatosis one. He curses and the video as of 1/30/16, almost has like 7 million views, so something has to be wrong right?
I beg to differ and this is popcorn that's hit it big.

He makes the good point of invincibility causing waiting opposed to the classic 16 bit and prior formation of action games consisting of both.
The fact that bombs in original Ocarina were pretty much miss prior to it having a hole indicated in.
Exploration vs action instead of both,
The fact that A Link To the Past was a 3D game but in a different way.
The differences between the two systems, battle, etc..
The Z- function mechanic.
Gorons have a rock shortage, although there's rocks all over.

A Link Between Worlds being a good mechanic addition after the failures of the Wii, (although he doesn't seem to be a big fan of N64 either.) He even sets it up a bit well demonstrating

Yakuza Kiwami preview

Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the original Yakuza. Being a big Shenmue fan, the words Shenmue spiritual successor turned up, leading me to this game. The game has gotten praise for its presentation and story, selling a million units.
I'm surprised that this game was even made as even mentioning the yakuza has been frowned upon by certain people such as great Japanese wrestler (Yoshihiro) Tajiri, when WWE suggested him to name a stable he created off a group like this.

That being said though, SEGA's safe, albeit that's debatable since their downfall as a console giant, how does it fare vs Shenmue?

Yakuza has a better story. Shenmue is a detective story with action hero tropes, and immerses you a lot better having you look and touch objects, buy stuff in a store, feed a cat, etc..
In Yakuza, people always try and mug you or scam you. Stuff like this can get you banned from China for looking down upon its society. And you have to beat deal with Yakuza gang member politics.

I also don't know the appeal of this game in Japan, where this stuff probably actually happened, whereas with the US, there's probably a Jiang Wen film sorta appeal to it.

Again though, the gameplay of Yakuza is really poor compared to Shenmue. You can't touch objects. There's a lot of stuff you can't do. The original game that I owned on the PS2 takes forever before you can get into the interesting and immersive side missions. Most of the missions are just gameplay. And the gameplay is not that deep, where it's the absolute opposite of what I want to do in Smash Bros and Shenmue learning how to use items only.
Smash Bros is a game where I prefer the use of the fighting moves that players can learn. Same with Shenmue (and you can't really use objects anyway.) The fighting system is not like Shenmue or even the story flawed Sleeping Dogs regretably. Just grab a friggin Bicycle then own people. It's very stilted, junky, and not really polished. I recall having problems with my cousin's Japanese Yakuza game as well.

Also, it's weird playing a crime game never being able to use a gun. Not having a Aliens; Colonial Marines is one thing, but how about a Valkyria Chronicles. It's sort a game logic thatn a real one.
The puzzle to get into the funeral was a bit interesting, albeit I couldn't figure out how to get through it for a while.

Oh well, this is a perfect time for SEGA to profit off Shenmue though, so why not? Trailers comparing the two games would definitely make them a lot of money.

Haul from It's a Hit Collectibles 1/15/16

2 Gamecube controllers for $20
1st one: Stick is a little jerky, worn, but works.
There's a little bit of damage to the wire, but nothing dangerous. Duct tape fixes it. And it works.
2nd one I found no problems with.

Beyond Good and Evil $10
Works. Great game.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess first impressions

My initial thoughts on this game were this:
It was cool that it was released for the Gamecube and Wii. The Wii was more popular back then quickly gaining the Gamecube in Software sales its first couple of years.
After the backlash of the Wind Waker's art design, they went back to the Ocarina of Time style.
That tutorial was huge though. And really un-Zelda-like in retrospective. I was pondering stuff to do in the first town and there isn't really much.

40 Unforgivable Plot Holes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens reax

Note, that being part of a blog network a while ago, I realize Huffington Post may not have the best writers' as it's more about quantity vs quality in blog networks, sort of like the eBay commission deal. I know some people with HP blogs, if you think I may be biased.
Star Wars?! Fans?! Biased?! They would never get butthurt over Greedo shooting first!
However, you don't think that Star Wars fans aren't some sort of fanatical movie cult that condemn anyone who says anything about about the series? I can even get to a debate into how awards ceremonies should work and how these types of fans should be left out.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/seth-abramson/40-unforgivable-plot-holes-in-star-wars-the-force-awakens_b_8850324.html

How does the article itself hold up, despite author, HP and Star Wars factors involved?
  1. How they destroyed Starkiller base, Unlikely, but not impossible. X
  2. Han Solo finally finds the Millenium Falcon. I don't know which scene this is in the film. Also, there's an entire story within the film how he lost the falcon. X
  3. This is actually really bad film analysis, as it was definitely implied that he was toying with Finn (I'm assuming it was this ex-Janitor at least, since it was the one who lost.) Not to mention, he was wounded by Chewie. X
  4. This writer doesn't know how the Force works. Then again, I doubt most audience members do either. X
  5. I'm not sure if this actually happened. But yeah. How do they save Ren in the final scene? O
  6. That chasm was really dumb.O
  7. How can Rey speak wookie if she never left her planet? There might've been a wookie on the planet, but it's not clear. So yeah, plothole. I
  8. The Tie Fighter crash survival is BS. O
  9. Republic Resistance is bullshit. O
  10. Is the Republic all in one system? Not clear. May have been misinterpreted, but yeah. I can see people assuming this and they don't address it. O
  11. The Knights of Ren are in the Flashback. Or ARE they? X
  12. Captain Phasma. O
  13. Finn's backstory is weird with the Jakku or wherever that Republic base being the first attack he does being weird. O
  14. I don't know what this point is about.
  15. Han and Luke abandoning the Resistance in their time of need is a bit of a dick move. Is it understandable? A bit vague, but probably yes. It is poorly written though. O
  16. Yeah. That was the deal with Star Wars also. Not really a plot hole though. Just sort of a fact. I guess agree with the point, but it's not really a plot hole. O
  17. Cinema is more important in cinema in realism. But yeah. Plothole having so many troops around just to fire a button. Also blame Lucas, as it's really up his bag of sleeves. O
  18. Luke leaving the Resistance but leaving a bag of breadcrumbs while not necessarily a plothole, is sort of self-defeating. O
  19. Storyline: Because R2 didn't want to activate cuz Luke left. Yeah, that's BS. O
  20. The Resistance only sending Rey and for whatever reason Chewie is sort of weird. Not to mention, for whatever reason no one believes in Jedi anymore, yet need Luke. That's a later point, but yes, cinematic but plotholy. O
  21. I don't recall him yelling Solo, but yes. It's a bit vague as to why he doesn't straight out tell Han to encounter him and die. Could be him, letting Solo expose himself. But yeah. Not stated in the movie. So yeah. O. It's also vague as to how powerful Ren is.
  22. Yes, he killed a galaxy. There is a way back. XD O
  23. Rey might've known with her Force powers. Finn probably not, yet didn't say something. Also, cinema, quiet, cinema.
  24. My issue isn't that the Millenium Falcon flies as fine. She didn't mean literally garbage. But my gosh, she all of a sudden 180s after Han Solo mentions the name, despite being a flight technician  O
  25. He does sorta basically send people after BB-8 X
  26. My issue is that Maz Kanata is friend to the Resistance, but works as a Tatooine III person. How does that work? X
  27. Darth Vader's mask should technically already be completely destroyed. It also sorta ruins where they could've went with Ren's character, making him a person who wants to get out of the Skywalker shadow. O
  28. Not really a plothole as he pretty much could've went anywhere to find Rey or whoever. How he survives would've been a better plothole, and if they had said something like him being 5 quadrillion parsecs away from anyone would definitely do it. Now that I think about it what do Finn and Poe have anything to do with Rey becoming a Jedi? X
  29. I don't know if Rey's never been in battle. Anyone can pretty much learn how to fight. X
  30. I don't know what he's talking about with this point.
  31. Yeah, I thought about this too. Poe and Finn barely know each other. Why would they celebrate? O
  32. What does Ren's headgear have to do with anything?
  33. This was a pretty glaring plothole for me too. Not to mention, he sends troops throughout the entire base after Rey after he already knows she has force powers. O
  34. Not a plothole. I believe it was explained or it was given a good reason not to explain. X
  35. Yeah, I don't see why the Rahtars didn't kill Finn, other that main character convieinience. They might've been full, but that's not mentioned.
  36. Maybe
  37. Yeah, that's pretty glaring
  38. Not really a plothoe
  39. Not a plot hlole
  40. Not a plothole.
Why is there no internet in Star Wars?

RIP David Bowie 1/10-11/16

David Bowie is of a dying breed. A true artist.
Some of his songs are memorable. Others are just so difficult to get into for a pop culture sell out like me, that I just can't get into them. I don't get Floyd. I don't get Bowie. And they're great.
On the day where Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu won both the Golden Globes for Best Director and Film for The Revenant, it's a time where we should appreciate art that challenges us. (Leo won for Best Actor.)
He was in such indie hits such as Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, The Man Who Fell To Earth, and the Prestige, not to mention the countless amount of songs sung for director classics such as David Lynch. I wonder what Lynch, Kitano and many other critically acclaimed figures think on his passing.
He was probably in the musical of 1986, the late Jim Henson's Labyrinth, a film about fairy tales, a spiritual successor to his more commercial and critically acclaimed Dark Crystal. If not for Blue Velvet by the aformentioned David Lynch, coming out that year, I would consider it probably the best film that year. He was probably the best cast in that film, beating other musicians such as Michael Jackson for the role.

Immortan Joe is a mirror image of Mad Max in Fury Road

He has a Tom Hardy version of a Bane mask.
Both Max and Joe wear masks in the beginning.
Max takes off his, but doesn't reveal his name till the end of the film, so he's still sort of a mystery as if he wore a mask.
Joe keeps his on till Furiosa rips his off.
Joe is a family man, a sort of Armaggeddon? version of Max.
Baby imagery.
War Boys, Wendy and Peter Pan.
Joe has children. Max doesn't, but wanted to gain a family in Road Warrior after losing them in the first film.
Both three letter names.
Sean McDougall mentions Immortan Joe's past placement to the old WWII and prior life, with religion and lack of technology, outside of vehicles.
Joe's a Greco-Roman god in that he is physically, still existing one.
He is a Christian God in his power.
He is a Norweigan God with Valhallah
Immortan Joe is a man of control.
He's created himself as a god.
He wants to create babies, images of himself.

I debate the connection between Joe and the War Boys with Max and the Feral Kid of Road Warrior.
Also, Nux is a former War Boy and fights on Max's side like with the War Boys and Joe and many other examples.
Sequels and babies and creation are a thing in the film.
According to wikipedia, Furiosa was originally supposed to be a infertile wife of Immortan Joe's. Disgarded.
She has a shaved head like a baby.
There are multiple dead baby bones throughout the film. There's a dead baby within the film, which likely isn't actually shown to distract from the story.

Max meanwhile is a mortal savage according to Road Warrior.
I do debate that this film may be too dependent on being a Road Warrior sequel hurting Fury Road's cred.

Although Rob Ager has mentioned that post-Road Warrior, there is no need for Max to relive its events having gone on, Paul Thomas Anderson has stated that he doesn't make films based on plot. Craftsmanship is pretty key in films which I think Ager has neglected over things.
Mad relives the events of the film, and it could be implied that Mad Max Fury Road could all be in Max's head just like Joe is, even in a dilapidated create your own God that controls you thing. (Not to start too much of a Pagan/Atheist debate, but isn't that what every God is?) He goes on Fury Road in his head and not actually in the film, fighting a struggle with himself in the dream shadow of Joe.
